The inclusion of the gender perspective in oncology research with Spanish participation

The gender perspective is important for a better diagnosis and treatment of diseases, especially in the field of oncology. This study aimed to analyse the gender approach in scientific articles in the field of oncology by studying the gender composition of the authorship of papers and the gender inclusion in the research carried out. A bibliographic search of articles and reviews signed by at least one Spanish institution published between 2010-2019 was carried out using the Science Citation Index Expanded database in the Oncology category. A total of 7,523 studies were classified according to the gender composition determined by the author’s name and a randomised sample was used to evaluate the inclusion of gender perspectives using a checklist. This study revealed a lack of gender parity in the authorship of oncology publications involving Spanish participation. Papers without author gender parity were eight times higher than papers with parity and showed a greater presence of male than female authorship (58% versus 31%). Regarding the introduction of the gender perspective, a negative response of 68% referring to compliance with the entire checklist was obtained, and only a fifth of the articles presented gender balance in the study sample. Moreover, there is a positive correlation between gender parity in authorship and gender perspective integration in published research. In conclusion, there is a great need to advance the inclusion of gender perspectives in cancer research to overcome gender bias and promote better prevention, detection, and intervention for cancer.

The landscape of flipped classroom research: a bibliometrics analysis

ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to conduct a comprehensive review of existing research related to the flipped classroom and analyze it using bibliometrics.MethodsThe search strategy of Topic = (“flipped classroom” or “invert classroom”) was used to construct a representative dataset of flipped classrooms in the Web of Science Core Collection (Science Citation Index Expanded) database up to November 2022. Author and country collaboration networks, hotspot distribution clustering, and historical citation networks associated with flipped classrooms were visualized by VOSviewer (Version 1.6.18) and R-Studio (Version 1.4).ResultsA total of 937 literature (868 articles and 69 reviews) were eventually included. The number of flipped classroom studies has increased dramatically since 2012. Europe, North America, China, and Australia have more research on flipped classrooms and have significant collaborations with other countries. Since flipped classrooms involve different subject areas and collaboration among authors is relatively fragmented. Numerous flipped classroom studies have been published in high-impact journals. The thematic trend suggests that the pros and cons of flipped classrooms and their application in medical education are possible research directions for some time to come.ConclusionAlthough the flipped classroom has a relatively short history, it has received a lot of attention and is currently enjoying a high level of overall acceptance. The flipped classroom has been further practiced in medical education, and we look forward to seeing its application in more subject areas (e.g., linguistics, mathematics, and computer science).

Association between periodontal disease and coronary heart disease: A bibliometric analysis

BackgroundPeriodontal disease and coronary heart disease are both prevalent diseases worldwide and cause patients physical and mental suffering and a global burden. Recent studies have suggested a link between periodontal disease and coronary heart disease, but there is less research in this field from the perspective of bibliometrics. ObjectiveThis study aimed to quantitatively analyze the literature on periodontal disease and coronary heart disease to summarize intellectual bases, research hotspots, and emerging trends and pave the way for future research. MethodsThe Science Citation Index Expanded database was used to retrieve study records on periodontal disease and coronary heart disease from 1993 to 2022. After manual screening, the data were used for cooperative network analysis (including countries/regions, institutions and authors), keyword analysis, and reference co-citation analysis by CiteSpace software. Microsoft Excel 2019 was applied for curve fitting of annual trend in publications and citations. ResultsA total of 580 studies were included in the analysis. The number of publications and citations in this field has shown an upward trend over the past 30 years. There was less direct collaboration among authors and institutions in this field but closer collaboration between countries. The United States was the country with the most published articles in this field (169/580, 29.14%). Based on the results of keyword analysis and literature co-citation analysis, C-reactive protein, oral flora, atherosclerosis, infection, and inflammation were previous research hotspots, while global burden and cardiovascular outcomes were considered emerging trends in this field. ConclusionStudies on periodontal disease and coronary heart disease, which have attracted the attention of an increasing number of researchers, have been successfully analyzed using bibliometrics and visualization techniques. This paper will help scholars better understand the dynamic evolution of periodontal disease and coronary heart disease and point out the direction for future research. Clinical significanceThis paper presents an overview between periodontal disease and coronary heart disease. Further exploration of the two diseases themselves and the potential causal relationship between the two is necessary and relevant, which may impact basic research, diagnosis, and treatment related to both diseases. This will aid the work of researchers and specialist doctors, and ultimately benefit patients with both diseases.

Effect of Induction Therapy Dose on Survival in Abo-Incompatible Kidney Transplantation: A Network Meta-Analysis Using Recent Data

Rituximab is an essential induction immunosuppressant for ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation (KT) (ABOi-KT). However, studies on the optimal dose of rituximab are insufficient, and there are dosage differences between transplant centers and countries. Therefore, we conducted a study to determine the survival outcomes of patients receiving the most effective and safe dose of rituximab during ABOi-KT. Studies on rituximab dose were divided into four groups: ABO compatible, 1) placebo, 2) rituximab 200 mg, 3) rituximab 200-500 mg, and 4) rituximab 500 mg. We searched the CENTRAL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Science Citation Index Expanded databases from 1970 to February 2022.9 . The inclusion criteria were adult patients (>18 years old). Reviews, observational studies, and clinical trials that did not clearly define outcomes or that did not have graft failure as an outcome were excluded. We performed direct and indirect network meta-analyses using Bayesian models and ranked different rituximab doses using a generation mixed treatment comparison (GeMTC) and Stata version 13. The NMA approach was evaluated using the GRADE framework, which specifies four levels of certainty for a given result: high, moderate, low, and very low. The outcomes included patient survival, graft failure, and bacterial and viral infections. Twenty-five trials, including 5,378 subjects, were divided into the following four groups: 1) placebo, 2) rituximab 200 mg, 3) rituximab 200-500 mg, and 4) rituximab 500 mg. We focused on survival outcomes according to the dose of rituximab when patients received induction therapy for ABOi-KT. The mortality rate was significantly lower in the ABO-compatible and rituximab 200 mg groups (odds ratio [OR] 0.27, 95% CrI: 0.071-0.91 and OR 0.14, 95% CrI 0.036-0.47), compared with that in the placebo group. We found that low-dose rituximab in ABO-i KT was effective compared to the high-dose and placebo in maintaining the survival rate. However, large-scale and long-term data are necessary for further validation of our findings. Additionally, the use of smaller doses of rituximab will require further discussion.

A Bibliometric Analysis of the 500 Most Cited Papers in Orthopaedic Oncology.

Despite notable progress over time, broad insight into the scientific landscape of orthopaedic oncology is lacking. We conducted a bibliometric analysis of the 500 most cited papers in the field. We searched the Science Citation Index Expanded database of the Web of Science Core Collection to find the 500 most cited articles in the field. Citation count ranged from 81 to 1,808. Articles were published from 1965 to 2018. Over half of all articles were published in the United States (53.6%). The 2000s was the most productive decade with 170 (34%) articles. All articles were written in English and were published across 29 journals. Female participation as first authors significantly increased from the 1960s to the 2010s (0% vs 14.6%, P = 0.0434). Similarly, female involvement as senior authors grew from the 1960s to the 2010s (0% vs 12.2%, P = 0.0607). Primary bone sarcomas were the most cited topic among articles from the 1970s to the 1980s. From studies produced in the 1990s up until the 2010s, reconstruction procedures were the most cited topic. Trends over the years have resulted in an emphasis on a surgical technique. Notable progress has been made regarding gender diversity, yet disparities still exist.

Ultrasonography in the intensive care unit: a bibliometrics analysis.

Ultrasonography is widely used in critical care practice. The status of related studies remains unclear. The purpose of this study is to analyze current literature investigating the use of ultrasound in critical care units by using bibliometric analysis. The Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) database was used for data retrieval. The search formula for literature retrieval was "ultrasound" OR "ultrasonography" AND "intensive care unit" OR "critical care unit" OR "intensive care" OR "critical care". The bibliometric software package of R software was used to analyze the results. Information of related literatures were analyzed. Finally, 3,715 articles were included. The number of published articles and the number of references increased annually. The research fields included medical imaging, critical care medicine, cardiology, etc. The United States has published more documents in this field than other countries and has shown the highest rate of cooperation with other countries. Among the top 10 research institutions with the largest number of publications, 5 are from France and 3 are from the United States. There are many authors from China in the top 10 published studies. Among the top 10 journals with the largest number of published articles, 5 journals are top journals in the field of critical care medicine. Among the top 10 keywords, there are 5 of ultrasound specialty and 2 of critical care medicine. Researches on the use of ultrasound in critical care units are mainly concentrated in several developed countries in Europe and the United States. Chinese research institutions should perform more studies in this field and increase cooperation with institutions from other countries.

Therapeutic Potential of Punica granatum and Isolated Compounds: Evidence-Based Advances to Treat Bacterial Infections.

Punica granatum Linn has been known for its nutritional and medicinal value since ancient times and is used in the treatment of various pathologies owing to its antibacterial properties. This review reports the results of the most recent studies on the antibacterial effects of P. granatum and its isolated compounds on bacteria of clinical interest. A search in the PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and Science Citation Index Expanded (Web of Science) databases was performed, which included articles that evaluated the antibacterial activity of P. granatum extracts and excluded articles that analyzed other microorganisms or nonpathogenic bacteria, as well as theses, dissertations, duplicate articles, and those not fully available. The literature suggests that P. granatum extracts can act on bacteria, such as methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA), methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), Streptococcus mutans, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. In addition, fruit peel was the most commonly used pharmacogen and methanol, ethanol, and water were the most common solvents for the extraction of bioactive compounds. The antibacterial potential of the methanolic extract of pomegranate peel could be attributed to the presence of active compounds, such as 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, punicic acid, gallic acid, and punicalagin. Thus, there is evidence that these plant extracts, having high polyphenol content, can disrupt the bacterial plasma membrane and inhibit the action of proteins related to antimicrobial resistance. P. granatum shows antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, with great potential against multidrug-resistant strains. Further research is needed to clarify the mechanism of action related to this biological activity and investigate the isolated substances that may be responsible for the antibacterial effects.

The gender composition of the members of the editorial board of toxicology journals: Assessment of gender equality.

In many areas of medicine, gender equality has not yet been fully adopted despite recent developments. The inequality of gender in various areas of medicine is still debated. In this study, we analysed the gender composition of the editorial boards of toxicology journals in the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) databases and the factors affecting this composition. The genders of the participants were determined by the data obtained from the official websites of the journals in September 2023. We analysed the journal metrics and publisher properties using Mann-Whitney U, Fisher's exact, Chi-square tests and Spearman's correlation coefficient. We used logistic regression analysis to reveal the independent factors related to gender parity. The representation rates of women were 28.62% on all editorial boards and 23.33% in editor-in-chief positions. The 'Neuroscience' (OR, 2.46 95%CI, 1.68-3.60, p< 0.001), 'Reproductive Biology'(OR, 2.05 95%CI, 1.22-3.42, p= 0.006) and 'Public, Environmental & Occupational Health'(OR, 1.49 95%CI, 1.18-1.88, p= 0.001) as a coverage category, the United States as a journal country (OR, 1.21, 95%CI, 1.04-1.40, p= 0.001), 5-year-IF≥3.6(OR, 1.54, 95%CI, 1.27-1.86, p< 0.001), 5-year H index≥29 (OR, 1.23, 95%CI, 1.01-1.49, p= 0.037) were the independent factors for gender parity. However, 'Oncology' (OR, 0.08 95%CI, 0.01-0.55, p= 0.011), 'Biochemistry, Molecular Biology' (OR, 0.62 95%CI, 0.44-0.86, p= 0.005) and 'Pharmacology & Pharmacy' (OR, 0.69 95%CI, 0.59-0.82, p< 0.001) as a coverage category, Japan as a publisher country (OR, 0.52 95%CI, 0.35-0.77, p= 0.001), and Switzerland as a journal country (OR, 0.61, 95%CI, 0.46-0.81, p= 0.001) were related to gender disparity. Greater endeavours are needed to reduce gender discrimination in toxicology. Toxicology authorities should continuously improve existing policies by optimising the analysis of objective information to eliminate barriers for toxicologists in terms of gender equality.

Research hotspots and emerging trends in the treatment of Sjogren's syndrome: A bibliometric analysis from 1900 to 2022

ObjectiveSjogren's syndrome (SS) is an autoimmune disease that mainly affects the salivary and lacrimal glands and further leads to dry mouth and eyes. In recent years, knowledge about the treatment of SS is developing rapidly. This study aims to assess research progress on SS treatment using a bibliometric approach and to identify research hotspots and emerging trends in this area. MethodsThe publications related to the treatment of SS were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) database. The following search terms were used to extract document data: TS=(Sjogren* OR Sicca*) AND TS= (Treat* OR Therap* OR Disease Management). Articles and review articles published in English from 1900 to 2022 were selected. After the manual screening, the publication data were exported to a plain text file and applied for cooperative network analysis, keyword analysis, and reference co-citation analysis by using CiteSpace. ResultsA total of 2038 publications were included in the analysis from 571 journals by 9063 authors. The annual number of published studies and times cited showed an overall upward trend since 1992. There was a degree of national/regional collaboration in this area, but direct collaboration between institutions and authors was still lacking. The country with the highest number of publications was in the United States, followed by China and Japan. Five SS-related treatments as the research hotspots were summarized by analyzing keywords and references, including immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory therapy, regenerative therapy, gene therapy, surgical treatment, and symptomatic treatment. Among them, B cells, T cells, mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), rituximab, belimumab, cell-target therapy, and immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory therapy were emerging trends in this field. ConclusionsThis study conducted a data-based and objective introduction to the treatment of SS from a fresh perspective. An analysis of the intellectual bases, research hotspots, and emerging trends in the field will contribute to future research and treatment decisions, which will ultimately benefit SS patients.

Public participation in the social sustainability evaluation of smart city infrastructure in the context of big data: a critical review

Purpose The current booming development of smart cities poses new requirements and challenges for their internal infrastructure development. This article aims to explore the questions of: What is the level of social sustainability of smart city infrastructure today? and What are the core contents and paths to improve this level?Design/methodology/approachWith the theme of public participation in the social sustainability evaluation of smart city infrastructure in the context of big data, this study mainly makes a systematic literature review of the Web of Science's Science Citation Index Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index databases. After collection and screening, 199 documents were finally obtained.FindingsIt is found that the level of social sustainability of smart city infrastructure is still low, and public participation can provide solutions to the difficulties and challenges involved in its development, while big data technology can broaden the channels for public participation and promote the development of smart city-related components in the process, including smart city infrastructure.Originality/valueThis article summarizes the internal mechanisms of smart cities at the theoretical level and analyzes the social sustainable development of smart city infrastructure. In practice, the shortcomings in this field are identified and suggestions are provided on how to carry out digital public participation, which has practical reference value.

Global trends of pyrolysis research: a bibliometric analysis

Pyrolysis has become an interesting waste valorization method leading to an increasing number of research studies in this field in the last decade. The present study aims to provide a comprehensive knowledge map of scientific production in pyrolysis, discuss the current state of research, and identify the main research hotspots and trends in recent years. The systematic review, supported by analysis of countries and institutions, keyword co-occurrence analysis, analysis of keyword trends, journal analysis, and article impact, was carried out on 6234 journal articles from the Science Citation Index Expanded database of the Web of Science Core Collection. As a result, four main research hotspots were identified: 1) characterization techniques and pyrolysis kinetic models, 2) biochar production and its main applications, 3) bio-oil production and catalytic pyrolysis, and 4) co-pyrolysis, which has become a consolidated research hotspot since 2018. Additionally, the main challenges and opportunities for future research have been identified, such as 1) the development of multi-step kinetic models for studying complex wastes, 2) the integration of biochar into other valorization processes, such as anaerobic digestion, and 3) the development of catalytic hydropyrolysis for the valorization of organic waste. This bibliometric analysis provides a visualization of the current context and future trends in pyrolysis, facilitating future collaborative research and knowledge exchange.

Trends of impact factor contributors to the Injury Journal: A bibliometric analysis

PurposeThis study aims to analyse papers concerning journal impact factors published in the Injury-International Journal of the Care of the Injured between 1997 and 2022. Through this analysis, the research offers valuable insights into the publication performance and contributors to the journal impact factor, encompassing papers, authors, institutions, and countries. MethodsArticles and reviews published in the Injury between 1995 and 2021 were examined using the Science Citation Index Expanded database. The study employed the journal impact factor contributing indicator to compare highly cited and high journal impact factor papers across various aspects, including papers, authors, institutions, and countries. ResultsA notable correlation exists between prolific authors, institutions, and countries, alongside those who contribute to high journal impact factors. However, a less distinct connection was observed between highly cited papers/authors and high journal impact factor contributors. The Injury serves as a well-regarded international journal. Notably, editorial members of the journal play a substantial role, serving as model editors and contributing significantly to the journal's success.Out of the Top 25 IF contributing papers with the CN of 34 or more the following themes were noted to dominate: bone healing/tissue regeneration (40 %) of papers, covid-19 pandemic (24 %), polytrauma/coagulopathy (12 %) and infection (8 %). ConclusionsUtilizing the journal impact factor to assess research performance at the individual, institutional, or national levels appears not to be the most appropriate method. The results show that highly cited authors did not hold the distinction of being the primary contributors to the IF. Analysis revealed a low significant relationship among the primary contributors to the IF, highly cited papers, and the most influential papers in 2022. A more effective indicator could involve considering the total number of citations a publication receives from its year of publication up to the end of the most recent year.

Current status of research on emergency surgery score in trauma patients: a bibliometric analysis.

The use of a relevant emergency score can provide an accurate assessment of the patient's condition and prognosis. However, the status of related studies remains unclear. The current study analyzed the research status of emergency surgery score (ESS) of trauma patients by using bibliometric methods. The Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) database in the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) was searched using keywords "trauma" and "emergency surgery score". All records from the search results and cited references were exported to Excel, duplicate literature records were removed, information for the same author and organization in different signature forms were merged. The resulting literatures were analyzed by year of publication, citation, discipline, countries and research institutions, journals, authors, and use of keywords. The cooperation among countries, institutions, and authors was also examined. A total of 2,175 document were retrieved. The number of published literature and the number of citations per year increased annually. The number of published documents (n=1,029) and research cooperation (centrality score, 0.44) in the United States were significantly ahead of those in other countries. The ten research institutions with the largest number of published documents were all from the United States, with much cooperation between research institutions and authors. There were many publications from China (n=108), but with few cooperations (centrality score, 0.22). The journals with the largest number of published articles were professional in the fields of trauma, emergency, and critical care. Keyword analysis showed that infection and shock were important issues besides surgery in the research related to ESS of trauma patients. Research related to ESS of trauma patients has been mainly conducted in the United States, and Chinese researchers should increase their level of cooperation.

Bibliometric analysis of trends in research of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F for treating rheumatoid arthritis.

Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F (TwHF) has been widely used to relieve rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in many countries. However, a bibliometric analysis of published articles discussing this treatment has not been conducted. This study aimed to explore the current status and trends of TwHF for treating RA. Literature was extracted from the Science Citation Index Expanded Database of the Web of Science from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2022. CiteSpace and the "bibliometrix" package were adopted to analyze the number of publications, countries, institutions, journals, authors, and keywords and to draw collaborative network maps. One hundred sixty-seven articles were identified. China has the most articles, followed by the United States. The China Academy of Chinese Medical Science had the study's most significant publications and the highest centrality. The author analysis combined with the analysis of the cited authors, the rank of Lin Na is in an important position. The Journal of Ethnopharmacology, Frontiers in Pharmacology has published the most relevant articles and is the hottest related journal. For keyword analysis, "classification," "criteria," "mechanism," and "methotrexate" were still being researched hot until 2022. Further investigation showed that "TNF-α," "proliferation," "endothelial growth factor," "NF-κB," and "collagen-induced arthritis" also remains research hotspot. Our results provide information on the research status, institutions, countries, authors, published journals, keywords related to using TwHF to treat RA, and theoretical support for further research.

10 years of CARE guidelines in publishing case reports in paediatrics

Case reports, as an article type in the biomedical field, hold particular importance in paediatrics because it is the optimal way to present new or rare diseases or overlapping syndromes that are usually hard to diagnose clinically (Nissen et al, 2014). The CARE (CAse REport) guidelines are a tool that helps standardise reporting in case reports.Those guidelines were published in 2013 (Gagnier et al., 2013) with the purpose of supporting an increase in the accuracy, transparency, and usefulness of case reports. Given the stated, the aim of this presentation is to examine the actual use of the CARE guidelines in the paediatrics field journals.Using Pubmed and Web of Science databases, journals in the category of Clinical Medicine - Paediatrics were searched and their instructions for authors and selected published case reports were examined. Based on inclusion criteria journals that publish case reports were included in the study and screened for the CARE guidelines using the CARE checklist.A total of 184 journals met the criteria, 130 journals (71%) were in the SCIE (Science Citation Index Expanded) category, while 54 journals (29%) were in the ESCI (the Emerging Sources Citation Index) paediatrics category. Most of the journals, 160 (87.5%) publish case reports, among them 44 journals (27.5%) mention the CARE guidelines in the instructions for authors. There were altogether 10,617 case reports published in 184 journals, of which 3527 in open access.Of the 44 journals that mention CARE guidelines, 27 journals (61%) are in the SCIE database category and 17 (39%) in the ESCI. There is a significant difference regarding the quartiles of SCIE journals that use CARE guidelines (p=0,041), the higher the quartile, the more journals that use the CARE guidelines (Q1=10; Q2=9; Q3=5; Q4=3).For the purpose of the oral presentation, authors will examine 10% of the available free full text case reports (except for the journals that have more than 100 case reports where 10 cases will be examined) and the expected sample size is 144. Two authors will check the compliance of randomly selected case reports with the CARE guidelines using the CARE checklist. As with every study, this one has certain limitations, as it is limited to the field of paediatrics and not all case reports can be examined as they are not available.

A dynamic study of the postoperative management of thyroid cancer from 2003 to 2022: a bibliometric analysis.

Over the past 20 years, the global incidence of thyroid cancer has continued to increase. The volume of literature on the postoperative management of thyroid cancer comprises 1,040 articles, from 64 countries, with 1,400 journals publishing the relevant literature, and several guidelines on the treatment of thyroid cancer. This study used bibliometric methods to identify research hotspots and explore future directions in this field. We comprehensively searched the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) database of the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) for articles published from 2003 to 2022 on the postoperative management of thyroid cancer. Using CiteSpace 6.1.R6 and Microsoft Office Excel 2010, we evaluated and visualized the search results. Using R Studio, we generated a network of spatial geographic distribution maps and cooperative network. A total of 1,040 publications were included in the study. The results revealed an overall upward trend in the number of publications and citations over the past 20 years. The United States of America (USA) had the largest number of publications and the highest centrality (n=282, centrality =0.28). Johns Hopkins University had highest centrality (centrality =0.15) and was the academic center of the field. Thyroid was the journal with the highest number of citations (n=826), and the American Journal of Surgical Pathology was the journal with the highest centrality (centrality =0.08). The top 10 citations in the literature were mainly guidelines and consensus statements on the management of thyroid cancer. A keyword-based clustering analysis revealed the prominence of clusters of keywords, such as follow-up, recurrent laryngeal nerve, and medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). A keyword burst detection analysis showed that the term papillary had the highest burst intensity (strength =8.02), while management guidelines, association guidelines, active surveillance (AS), microcarcinoma, and differentiated thyroid cancer were the current burst words. Over the past two decades, the number of relevant publications in the postoperative management of thyroid cancer field has continued to grow. Among the many research directions, follow-up, recurrent laryngeal nerve, and MTC are research hotspots. Future research is likely to revolve around guidelines and consensus statements on the management of thyroid cancer, AS, and microcarcinoma in differentiated thyroid cancer.

Bibliometric analysis for global marine microplastic pollution control from 2013 to 2022

The control of microplastic pollution in the marine environment has become a growing public concern in recent years. To better grasp the trends and development of microplastic pollution control in the marine environment, the published literature in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) database of Web of Science Core Collection from 2013 to 2022, up to a total of 2,357 articles or reviews was analyzed through CiteSpace and VOSviewer tools. The results show an exponential growth in the number of papers related to the control of microplastic pollution in the marine environment, with China, United States, India, and Australia providing the main drivers, while China being the most active country, with Science of the Total Environment, Marine Pollution Bulletin, Environmental Pollution and Chemosphere being the most important sources for publishing relevant research. A relatively complete theoretical framework has been developed for the control of marine microplastic pollution, focusing on the quantification, traceability and collectability of microplastics. However, few papers have focused on policy implications and technological innovations in this area. The research on marine microplastic pollution control has transitioned from traceability and hazard analysis of microplastics to the impact of economic activities and synthetic fibre on microplastic pollution. Microplastics in wastewater discharged from municipal wastewater treatment plants, human consumption, man-made fibers and synthetic polymers have become the frontier of research. The present study is of significance for better understanding and supporting further research on the control of microplastic pollution in the marine environment.

Trends in Seed Priming Research in the Past 30 Years Based on Bibliometric Analysis.

Seed priming (SP) treatments are widely used in agriculture and restoration to improve seed germination and seedling vigor. Although there exists a considerable amount of scientific literature on SP, it has seldom undergone visual and quantitative analyses. To gain insights into the patterns observed in SP research over the last three decades, we conducted a bibliometric analysis using the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) database, aiming to minimize the similarity score in plagiarism detection. This analysis offers a thorough examination of yearly publications, temporal patterns in keyword usage, the top-performing journals, authors, institutions, and countries within the field of SP. Our research findings suggest a steady annual increase of 10.59% in the volume of SP publications, accompanied by a significant upward trajectory in the average citations received per paper annually. According to the analysis of keywords, it was found that "priming" and "germination" emerged as the most frequently used terms in the field of SP research. Seed Science and Technology ranked first among the top journals, and Plant Physiology had greater influence in the field of SP in terms of number of citations. The majority of the top 10 productive institutions were situated in developing countries. In addition, these nations exhibited the highest volume of published works and citations. Our analysis revealed a shift in research focus within the field of SP over the past three decades, transitioning from agricultural science to encompass plant science and environmental science. With the growing recognition of SP's research across different disciplines, there exist abundant prospects for international and interdisciplinary partnerships, collaborative organizations, and progress in this field.

Knowledge mapping of an artificial intelligence application scenario: A bibliometric analysis of the basic research of data-driven autonomous vehicles

With the rapid development and maturation of basic research in related fields such as deep learning and convolutional neural networks, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a policy hotspot of high interest in all major economies. Furthermore, the governance of application scenarios has become one of the important topics of AI governance policy research. The practice of AI governance policy depends on a change in the paradigm of relevant governance policy research theories, and there is an urgent need to empirically analyze the structural characteristics of the knowledge evolution of AI application scenarios. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of the basic research trends in autonomous vehicles, which is one of the most important application scenarios of AI. The study empirically analyzes the relevant literature data from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded) and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) databases of Web of Science, based on both technical and social dimensions through the knowledge mapping analysis tools in Bibliometrix (in R environment). Based on the empirical analysis, the results show that the basic research on autonomous vehicles is characterized by strong data-driven innovation under the influence of AI. The fusion of AI and basic research on autonomous vehicles has become a major driver of knowledge innovation in this domain while there is a lack of the integration of social science research.

Bibliometric study of immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), recognized as a significant global health concern, ranks as the sixth most prevalent form of cancer and is the third leading cause of cancer-associated mortality. Over half of HCC patients are diagnosed at advanced stages, an unfortunate phenomenon primarily attributed to the liver's robust compensatory mechanisms. Given the limited availability of donor livers, existing clinical surgical approaches have yet to provide universally applicable treatment strategies offering substantial prognostic improvement for late-stage cancer. Although the past few decades have witnessed significant advancements in chemotherapy and targeted therapy for HCC, the emergence of drug resistance poses a substantial impediment to their successful execution. Furthermore, issues such as diminished quality of life post-treatment and high treatment costs warrant critical attention. Consequently, the imperative for an effective treatment strategy for advanced liver cancer is unequivocal. In recent years, notable progress in the development and application of immunotherapy has sparked a revolution in advanced liver cancer treatment. This study aims to elucidate a more comprehensive understanding of the current landscape, knowledge framework, research focal points, and nascent breakthrough trends in the domain of immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma via bibliometric analysis. Our study involved conducting a comprehensive literature search spanning from 1999 through December 31, 2022, by utilizing the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded) database. Our aim was to amass all the papers and reviews related to immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma. Our search strategy yielded a total of 4,486 papers. After exclusion of self-citations, we focused our analysis on 68,925 references. These references were cited 119,523 times (excluding 97,941 self-citations), boasting an average citation frequency of 26.64 times per paper, and achieved an h-index of 135. We employed analytical software tools like Citespace and VOSviewer to perform an intricate analysis of the amassed literature, covering various aspects, including geographical location, research institutions, publishing journals, authors, references, and keywords. Our method incorporated timeline analysis, burst detection, and co-occurrence analysis. The application of these tools facilitated a thorough evaluation of research hotspots, knowledge structure, and emerging advancements within the sphere of immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma. Our bibliometric analysis disclosed a noteworthy escalation in the number of publications in the realm of hepatocellular carcinoma immunotherapy during the years 2021-2022, surpassing the aggregate number of papers published in the preceding decade (2011-2020). This surge underscores a sharp upturn in research interest within this field. Additionally, the research hotspot in hepatocellular carcinoma immunotherapy has perceptibly deviated from the preceding decade's trends. In terms of geographical distribution, China emerged as the leading country, producing 50.08% of the total publications. This was followed by the United States, with 963 papers, and Japan, contributing 335 papers. Among research institutions, Sun Yat-sen University was the most prolific, while Tim F. Greten stood out as the most published author with 42 papers to his credit. A co-reference network examination uncovered a shift in research emphasis within the field of hepatocellular carcinoma immunotherapy, highlighting the evolving nature of this important area of study. Our bibliometric study highlights the significant evolution and growth in HCC immunotherapy research over the past two decades. Looking ahead, research will focus on improving the microenvironment post-drug resistance from immune combination therapy, harnessing adoptive cellular immunity (as CAR-T), subclassify the population and developing new tumor markers. Incorporation of technologies such as nanotechnology, microbiology, and gene editing will further advance HCC treatments. This progressive trajectory in the field promises a brighter future for individuals suffering from HCC.
